Toyota has released the first images and details of the Corolla Touring Sports ahead of its Paris motor show debut. The estate is styled in Toyota’s European design centre and shares much with the Corolla hatchback sold abroad from the C-pillar forward.

Moving to the side and rear, a rising shoulder line and flared wheel arches mark it out from the side view, while a sloping roofline and steeply raked rear window give the car an appearance akin to a shooting brake; and the restyle is complete with full-LED rear lights. Four dual-tone colour schemes will be offered, alongside an array of standard shades.

Much like the exterior, the passenger compartment has little to differentiate between the Touring Sports and the Corolla hatchback. However, the car's wheelbase has been increased to 2,700mm – 60mm over the hatchback – and the cabin has a claimed best-in-class rear legroom. Toyota has quoted a 598-litre boot capacity (with the seats up). No figure has been released for the seats-down boot capacity.

With regard to technology available on the new Corolla, it is equipped with a head-up display, a JBL premium sound system and wireless phone charging.

The Touring Sports utilises the same petrol-only powertrain seen in the hatchback that is available in international markets – a 115hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mill being the entry point. It also features two petrol-electric hybrid options: a 123hp, 1.8-litre unit and a new 2.0-litre range-topping mill that puts out 180hp.

The previous-gen Corolla is on sale in India in sedan form and called the Corolla Altis. Priced between Rs 16.27-20.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the model in India is a rival to the Hyundai Elantra and Skoda Octavia.
