Toyota’s version of the Maruti Baleno, the Glanza, launched with quite a competitive (albeit introductory) price tag, surprising all those who expected it to be priced at a significant premium.
After speaking to Toyota dealers, we can now report that buyers will have to wait at least one month for the delivery of their new Glanza. Dealer sources have also revealed that the Glanza G MT sees the highest demand out of all four variants on offer. This is thanks to its excellent price and comparatively more fuel-efficient nature (23.87kpl compared to 21.01kpl for the 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol). Surprisingly, the top-spec Glanza V CVT is in higher demand than its manual counterpart, though waiting periods for the top-spec automatic variant are about two months. The reason being that from the 2,666 units Maruti dispatched to Toyota dealers, the number of top-spec models were significantly less.
The base Toyota Glanza G MT – which comes with a 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and mild-hybrid tech – undercuts its equivalent Maruti Baleno Zeta variant by a significant Rs 65,000, while the top-spec Glanza V CVT at Rs 8.90 lakh, costs the same as the Baleno Alpha CVT.
