Toyota has updated its hugely popular Innova Crysta as well as the Fortuner with improved features and additional equipment in an effort to boost the models' attractiveness.

As a part of the update, the carmaker has restored the Crysta with 17-inch rims that has tyres with a stiffer sidewall. Around April this year, Toyota discontinued the 17-inch alloys from the Innova Crysta range and switched to 16-inch rims after customer feedback revealed instances of tyre damage under heavy load.

While the larger alloys are standard on the Touring Sport variant, they only feature on the top-end Z trim of the Crysta.

Furthermore, the Crysta and the automatic trims of the Fortuner will see the addition of engine start-stop function, which enhances fuel economy and is a common feature in Mahindra's micro-hybrid technology. However, Toyota does not intend to dub both the models as "micro hybrids" as it believes doing so would dilute the meaning of true hybrids such as the Prius and Camry.

Additionally, the base GX trim of the Crysta (only 8-seater) gets more features like rear-seat centre armrest, driver-seat height adjuster and rear air conditioning. The door ajar warning function for each door is now standard across the range. Notably, Toyota has also equipped the V trim with GPS navigation.
