Tata passenger-car dealers are now offering heavy discounts on its Harrier SUV in a bid to clear stocks before the year ends. While the Harrier has been offered with discounts for the past few months – due to the market slowdown and festive season – the discount on the SUV this month seems to be the highest ever offered by the brand.
Sources tell us that the Harrier can now be purchased at a discount of as high as Rs 1.75 lakh on most variants. This means, the top-spec Harrier could be had for under Rs 19 lakh on road instead of its current Rs 20.47 lakh price tag. Since its launch, the SUV has gathered a decent fan following, especially post the launch of the Dark Edition, which features a unique, all-black theme. It faces strong competition from the MG Hector and Kia Seltos, and loses out on customer appeal due to the lack of an automatic gearbox option.
The Harrier is currently sold with a single BS4-compliant, 2.0-litre diesel motor mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. A more powerful BS6-compliant engine will launch close to the March 31, 2020 deadline, along with an option of a 6-speed torque convertor automatic 'box.
Tata Motors will also introduce a seven-seat version of the Harrier SUV (recently named Gravitas) next year. The company is gearing up for the world premiere of its first electric SUV, the Nexon EV, which will take place on December 19, 2019. Additionally, the Tata Altroz, an alternative small-car option to the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno, will also hit showrooms earlier this year.
