  • New X7 gets split-headlamp set-up
  • Makes more power from 48V mild-hybrid system
  • Gets an updated infotainment system

2023 BMW X7: design changes

The facelifted X7 gets a reworked front, along with split-headlight fixtures, replacing the traditional set-up. This new design philosophy is a first for BMW, as it has never been seen on any of its prior models. Therefore, it will be the new staple for other BMW models, eventually trickling down to the electric i7 sedan and 7 Series in the near future.

To highlight the SUV’s upright stance, BMW has placed the LED DRLs near the bonnet line, whereas the headlamps are mounted lower down on the bumper. The X7’s base xDrive 40i variant gets an updated kidney grille with darkened slats and silver trim on the bumper. Other front highlights of the X7 xDrive 40i include the cascade lighting element integrated within the grille.

Meanwhile, the top-spec M60i version gets an all-black gloss treatment on the grille and the bumper-mounted air vents. BMW has also darkened the headlight fixtures on the M60i for a sportier look. The new X7 gets 21-inch wheels on the xDrive 40i and 22-inchers on the M60i. At the rear, the SUV now features a slimmer chrome bar that connects the updated LED tail-lights.

2023 BMW X7: updated powertrain

BMW continues to offer the same 3.0-litre, inline-six-cylinder engine for the base X7 xDrive 40i and the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 motor for the M60i; both now get the 48V mild-hybrid system. With an extra 40hp and 70.5Nm on tap, the inline-six now produces a total output of 375hp and 519Nm. This allows the xDrive 40i to accelerate from 0-100kph in a quick 5.6sec.

The M60i with the twin-turbo V8 produces the same 523hp and 750Nm as before. With this output, the M60i can accelerate from 0-100kph in 4.0sec and maxes out at a limited top speed of 290kph. All versions of the 2023 X7 get the new 8-speed automatic transmission with launch control functionality.

2023 BMW X7: features

BMW has equipped the new X7 with its latest iDrive 8 infotainment system. It consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, previously featured on the electric iX and i4. Compared to its predecessor, the iDrive 8 features a sleeker interface, a streamlined home screen, as well as voice and gesture control.

The X7 now gets multi-contour seats as standard, with heating functionality for both the driver and front passenger. As part of the standard package, the base xDrive 40i gets the vegan Sensafin leather, while the M60i gets the extended Merino leather.

2023 BMW X7: India launch and rivals

The new X7 has already gone on sale globally and is expected to arrive in India by the end of this year or early next year. As for its rivals, the SUV competes with the Mercedes GLS, Audi Q7 and the Q8.
