Volkswagen is continuing its run of revealing sporty electric models. The ID.7 sedan is the brand’s latest EV to gain the GTX badge, and comes with a 340hp dual-motor setup. The ID.7 GTX joins the ID.3 hatchback, ID.4 SUV, ID.5 SUV-coupe, ID.Buzz MPV and the technically related ID.7 Tourer estate in VW’s hotter GTX-badged EV portfolio.

  1. VW claims a 5.4 second 0-100kph time for the ID.7 GTX
  2. Shares the same 86kWh battery with the range-topping ID.7 Pro S
  3. Gets the same chassis tweaks for dynamics as the ID.7 GTX Tourer

A hot version of Volkwagen’s flagship sedan has been on the cards for some time and was all but confirmed by the German brand when it revealed the ID.7 GTX Tourer. The ID.7 GTX shares the same dual-motor powertrain as its ID.Buzz and ID.7 Tourer siblings, which ups power by 54hp over the standard model. Volkswagen claims a 5.4 second 0-100kph time.

Powering the GTX sedan is the same 86kWh battery as the ID.7 Pro S, which can be charged at up to 200kW for a 10-80 percent charge in less than 30 minutes. Wolfsburg is yet to confirm the ID.7 GTX’s range, but given its more power-focused billing, it will likely be less than the 685km range of the Pro S.

As with the ID.7 GTX Tourer estate, the sedan’s chassis and dynamics have been tweaked in order to deal with the increase in power. The ID.7 GTX gains a sportier steering set-up, too, and buyers can add Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which uses a revised dynamics manager to offer customisable handling.

Some sporty cues are added to the exterior styling, such as a bespoke GTX front bumper, LED ‘arrowhead’ daytime running lights and black gloss trim. The interior is identical to that of the GTX Tourer, with sports seats embellished by red stitching and GTX lettering.

While there is no word from Volkswagen about bringing the ID.7 GTX sedan to the Indian market, the brand has confirmed it is working on a mass market EV. VW's PEAK EV project will see the German company's EV for India to the market by 2026.
