  • Black Edition model based on mid-spec T-Roc on sale in international markets

  • Gets darkened cosmetic elements and more equipment compared to the mid-spec T-Roc

Volkswagen has revealed a new trim for its T-Roc SUV that’s on sale in international markets. Called the Black Edition, the package adds murdered-out styling and an upgraded equipment list to the mid-spec T-Roc SE variant. Unlike the India-spec VW T-Roc, which is available in a single fully-loaded variant, the model on sale in those markets has over five trim levels.

The Volkswagen T-Roc Black Edition adds a dark finish to the grille trim, door mirror caps, roof rails and exhaust pipes. The detailing also extends to the T-Roc’s 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the SUV gains a rear privacy glass and what Volkswagen describes as an “eye-catching” new decal on the C-pillar. LED headlights are also added as part of the package.

Inside, Black Edition models feature 'piano black' dash pads, black roof lining, a leather-wrapped gear knob and multifunction sports steering wheel with contrasting grey stitching, and white ambient lighting and footwell illumination.

Standard equipment on offer includes adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and electrically heated and foldable door mirrors with integrated puddle lights. Kit such as Vienna leather upholstery, a Beats audio sound pack and sports suspension are offered as options.

As with the standard T-Roc, the Black Edition is available with petrol and diesel engines. There are two TSI turbo-petrol options – a 115hp, 1.0-litre and a 115hp, 1.5-litre – and two TDI diesel options – a  115hp, 1.6-litre and a 150hp, 2.0-litre – on offer.

In the Indian market, VW launched the T-Roc here just prior to the start of the lockdown. As mentioned above, the India-spec model is available in a single fully-loaded trim and comes exclusively with a 150hp, 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DSG gearbox. There is plenty of equipment on offer with LED headlamps, Vienna leather upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, six airbags, ESC and a panoramic sunroof coming standard. The T-Roc in India rivals the Jeep Compass and its recently launched sister model, the Skoda Karoq.
