Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus get more features, RDE-compliant engines

Along with these updates, Volkswagen has hiked the prices across its portfolio effective from April 1.

Volkswagen has introduced a few new features to the lower variants of its Taigun SUV and the Virtus sedan. Along with it, the carmaker has updated the powertrains of both models to meet the upcoming Real Driving Emissions (RDE) norms and has made it E20 (20 percent ethanol) compliant.

Volkswagen has announced a price hike of 2 percent across its entire portfolio, which along with the Taigun and Virtus, also consists of the Tiguan premium SUV.

Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus feature updates 

Volkswagen is now offering auto headlights with a follow me home feature on the 1.0 TSI Highline and 1.5 TSI GT variants of the Taigun. Earlier, this feature was only available with the higher-spec 1.0 TSI Topline and the 1.5 TSI GT Plus variants of the SUV. Apart from this, there is no change in the equipment of the Taigun Highline and GT variants. 

The Virtus, on the other hand, now gets rear fog lamps as standard across all the variants. Earlier, they were only available on the higher trims of the midsize sedan. 

Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus BS6 Phase II updates

Ahead of the upcoming RDE norms set to come into effect from April 1, the German carmaker has updated the powertrains of the two models to meet the new emissions regulations. The turbo-petrol engines in both cars are now also E20 compliant. 

The Taigun and Virtus share the same engine options, which include a 115hp, 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 150hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual, 6-speed torque-converter auto and a 7-speed dual-clutch auto depending on the engine. 

Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus price hike

The Virtus currently starts at Rs 11.32 lakh and tops off at Rs 18.32 lakh, while the Taigun starts at Rs 11.56 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.96 lakh. Along with the features and powertrain updates, Volkswagen has announced a price hike of 2 percent across its model range, which also includes the Tiguan premium SUV, which is currently priced at Rs 33.5 lakh. The price hike will come into effect from April 1. 

Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus rivals 

The Taigun competes with a host of other midsize SUVs, including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and the Skoda Kushaq. The Virtus, on the other hand, competes with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the recently facelifted Honda City and the all-new Hyundai Verna.
