The new Volkswagen Tharu SUV has been spied undisguised in China. The new SUV is based on the Skoda Karoq SUV already on sale in multiple international markets and was first showcased in concept form around two months ago, as the VW Powerful Family SUV concept.
The VW Tharu will be introduced in the Chinese market with two turbocharged petrol engine options – a 116hp, 1.2-litre motor and a 150hp, 1.4-litre alternative. Both engines will be paired to dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic gearboxes. The Tharu will measure 4,453mm in length, 1,632mm in height and 1,841mm in width. Interestingly, as the figures reveal, the Tharu is longer and taller than the upcoming (in India, that is) Karoq by 71mm and 27mm, respectively.
One can expect the new Volkswagen Tharu to debut officially in China in the third quarter of 2018. The German car maker is also expected to launch this SUV in select South American markets.
