German carmaker Volkswagen has announced an increase in prices across its product range by up to Rs 20,000, with the hike effective from January 2018.
Like other carmakers who have announced a price increase in the recent past, VW has cited similar reasons. “The price increase is essential on account of several external economic factors as well as fluctuations in the global commodity price and local input cost, and is in line with industry” said Steffen Knapp, the director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars India.
Other manufacturers that have implemented a similar price hike till now include Skoda, Isuzu, Toyota and Tata Motors.
Volkswagen’s sales volumes in the April to November period slipped down by 4 percent at 31,644 units. In the same period last year, Volkswagen sold 32,877 units.
