Volvo has launched the V40 Cross Country in India.
The V40 Cross Country competes with the likes of the recently launched Mercedes A-class and compact luxury SUVs such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Volvo has priced the V40 Cross Country at Rs 28.5 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, which squarely puts it against the above contenders.
The Volvo V40 is offered in only one variant which is loaded to the gills with equipment and the Swedish carmaker's trademark safety features. The V40 Cross Country's long list of safety equipment will include SIPS airbags, knee airbags and inflatable curtain airbags, start-stop technology, front seats with whiplash protection.
Other features include a fixed panoramic sunroof, A/C with clean air filter technology, cruise control, leather seating surfaces with heated and power front seats with memory settings for the driver. More features include cruise control, rear parking camera and front and rear parking sensors.
The digital instrument cluster with an in-built 8-inch TFT display is customisable, with the provision for three modes – Elegance, Eco and Performance.
In the Elegance mode, the display remains simple with the highlighted needle for the speedometer. This mode also shows a gearshift indicator if the vehicle is used in manual mode.
In Eco Mode, the display is similar to that in the Elegance mode but also included is an Eco Meter which shows real time fuel consumption and average fuel consumption. This display also gives an “eco” symbol if the vehicle is driven efficiently.
In “Performance Mode”, the center dial transforms itself into a tachometer and there’s a digital readout for the speed in the center. This mode also shows the power being used and available power before overtaking.
Parking Pilot
This technology, at the press of a button, scans the parking slots using an ultrasonic sensor. It alerts the driver if it finds a slot spacious enough (1.2-times the length of the vehicle). The driver has to line up the car in front of the slot and engage in reverse. The driver has to just control the speed and direction while the Park Assist Pilot system takes over the steering and parks the vehicle.
City Safety Tech
This is Volvo’s world-first technology, which activates when it senses an impending collision. The brakes are pre-charged to act faster on the driver’s response. In case the driver fails to brake, this technology automatically applies the brakes and cuts the throttle to help mitigate the effects of a collision.
Additional features include a sunglass holder, compass, remote keyless entry with push button start, an illuminated gear knob, LED day-time running lights with active bending technology. Standard equipment also includes 17-inch “Larenta” alloy wheels with brushed-aluminum finish.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre five cylinder common-rail turbo diesel engine good for 148bhp and 35.7 kgm of torque. It does 0-100kph in 8.68 sec.
Colour choices include Misty blue, Passion red, Raw copper and silver metallic. The interior leather can also be ordered in three different shade combinations such as Black Charcoal, Light Brown as well as a Black Charcoal with Hazel Brown.
