The Volvo S60 T6 has just been launched in India at Rs 42 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This is the more powerful and sportier petrol variant of the Volvo S60, a rival to the likes of the BMW 3-series and the Mercedes C-class.

The previous S60 T6, which was launched in 2011, came with a straight-six engine that developed 304bhp and 44.9kgm of torque. The new T6 gets a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged and supercharged direct-injection unit that makes 302bhp and 40.78kgm of torque. It's a front-wheel drive, and transmission duties are held by an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The S60 T6 achieves a 0-100kph sprint in a claimed 5.9 seconds, while going on to a top speed of 230kph.

The T6 is the range-topper in the S60 line-up, and it's available in one fully-loaded Inscription trim. Features on the T6 are similar to the ones on the Inscription trim of the diesel model. As with all other Volvo cars, the S60 T6 also gets an array of safety features. Other features include climate control, powered front seats and an electric sunroof.

This is the fourth model in a slew of launches scheduled for this year by Volvo. The earlier launches include the petrol V40 Cross Country T4, the new XC90 SUV and the V40 hatchback.

Alongside the launch of the S60 T6, Volvo has also inaugurated a new showroom in Chennai. The carmaker aims to open 20 new showrooms by March 2016.
