Volvo has unveiled refreshed versions of the S90 sedan and V90 estate, with the updated models including the addition of mild-hybrid engine options. The addition of the mild-hybrid unit to the luxury sedan and estate means that the powertrain is now available on every model in the Swedish firm’s international line-up.
The system, which uses a 48V battery with an integrated starter/generator and energy recovery system, will be introduced across the S90 and V90 variants, including on the V90 Cross Country – the first time one of the rugged models has been fitted with a mild-hybrid powertrain.
At the same time, Volvo has made a number of relatively small design tweaks to the S90 and V90. While at the front both cars get a new bumper and fog lights, the rear sees new-look LED tail-lights for the V90, and the company has also installed sequential indicator lights for the first time. There are a number of new colour and wheel options, too.
The interior has also been refreshed, and Volvo has added an ‘Advanced Air Cleaner’, which filters particulates from the cabin and can display air quality on the infotainment system. The system was previously only available in Chinese-market models.
There are now two USB-C charging ports in the rear, replacing the 12V power outlet. Wireless charging has been added as an option on most variants. The S90 and V90 also gain an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins sound system and an expanded range of leather-free material options.
For India, Volvo recently announced that it had upgraded its entire range of models to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The S90 in India is currently available in a single fully-loaded variant, with the V90 estate available in its more rugged Cross Country avatar. It is not yet known when Volvo will introduce the updated models in India or if we will get the option of mild-hybrid engines. Volvo currently only offers the XC90 with a hybrid system with its T8 Twin-engine system.
