2014 Mercedes S-class India launch on January 8

Mercedes-Benz India has revealed to Autocar India that it will launch the all-new 2014 Mercedes S-class (W222) in New Delhi on January 8, 2014.

The original plan was to have the formal launch at the New Delhi Auto Expo in February, but with the old S-class (W221) having run out its remaining stocks and an overflowing order book for the new model, the German luxury car maker now wants to make a market introduction of its flagship as soon as possible.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-class will initially be launched in only one variant – the top-of-the-line S 500. The S 500, which will be directly imported from Germany, is powered by a twin-turbocharged, 4663cc V8 petrol engine developing 453bhp and 71.38kgm of torque. In India, it will only be available in long wheelbase form and will be fully loaded. The estimated price for the 2014 Mercedes S 500 is around Rs 1.6 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). However, this exorbitant price hasn’t deterred prospective owners, and according to company sources, the 2014 Mercedes S 500 is sold out for the first three months.

The locally assembled 2014 Mercedes S 350 CDI diesel will be significantly cheaper, but is not expected until the second half of 2014.
