After launching the AMT-equipped Celerio and more recently, the Alto K10 AMT, Maruti is reportedly readying the AMT-equipped version of the Wagon R. Our sources tell us that Maruti wants to keep the Wagon R AMT at the premium end of the line-up and will launch the AMT only in the Wagon R Stingray edition.
The Maruti Wagon R is powered by the 1.0-litre K10 petrol motor and will be mated to the same five-speed automated manual gearbox as in the Celerio and Alto K10 auto versions.
When launched, the Celerio AMT commanded a waiting period of six-seven months which has now reduced to about four months, while the Alto K10 AMT still commands a waiting period of around 45 days, which is expected to go up, according to some dealers.
Currently, Maruti receives around 3,500 AMT kits from its supplier Magnetti Marelli for the Celerio and Alto, the carmaker is in talks to increase supply in order to sustain high demand and is expected to get around 5,000 kits per month soon.
We expect the Maruti Wagon R Stingray AMT to be priced at a premium of Rs 30,000-35,000 over the manual-gearbox equipped version.
