Nissan has unveiled their new SUV in India, the Terrano. The carmaker’s new SUV is its answer to cars like the Ford EcoSport and its Alliance partner Renault Duster.
Unlike other badge-engineered products like the Renault Scala and Pulse (which are the Sunny and Micra, respectively, with a few plastic add-ons), the Renault Duster-based Nissan Terrano comes with more significant exterior changes to the compact SUV vehicle.
There are sheet metal changes to bring the car’s design in line with other Nissan SUVs like the X-Trail and Pathfinder. This includes different bumpers, tailgate, headlamps, tail-lights and an all-new grille that defines it as a Nissan. The interiors are mostly the same as the Renault Duster’s, though.
In terms of engine options, it gets the same set as the Duster. This means a 1.6-litre petrol option, and two diesel engine options in different states of tune.
Speaking at the unveiling event, Kenichiro Yomura, president, Nissan India operations, said, “The Terrano marks our entry into the compact SUV segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the Indian market today. It follows the same design language as our Pathfinder and patrol SUVs and makes a strong statement, which is a key differentiator in this segment. We are confident that the Terrano SUV will appeal both to existing real SUV lovers and consumers looking to graduate to SUVs.”
Pre-sales bookings for the Terrano will start from September 1, 2013, while the car will go on sale across India in October. The new Nissan Terrano SUV will come with a sub-Rs 10 lakh price tag.
