Tata Zest gets new 75PS diesel variants

Tata launched its sub-four-metre compact sedan, the Zest in 2014 with three engine options –  a 88.7bhp(90PS) turbo-petrol, 88.7bhp(90PS) diesel and 73.9bhp(75PS) diesel. The petrol version came in four variants – XE, XM, XMS and XT – and the diesel version in six variants – XE, XM, XMS, XMA, XT and XTA.

The lower powered diesel engine, which until now was only available in the barebones XE variant, is now also available in the XM and XMS trims. The XMS variant comes with front airbags, ABS, EBD, and CSC.

The more powerful engine will now be available on the XT, XMA and XTA variants. These include both Automated Manual Transmission(AMT)-equipped versions (XMA, XTA) of the Zest.

Under the hood, both versions of the Zest diesel pack the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced turbo-diesel engine, with the former, more powerful engine getting a Variable Geometry Turbocharger(VGT), and the latter getting a fixed geometry turbocharger.

Petrol variants, powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged Revotron engine, will continue to be available in four variants – XE, XM, XMS and XT.
While the regular petrol and diesel variants come with five-speed manual gearboxes, the AMT variants of the Zest get five-speeder units of the affordable automatic gearbox.
