I am 65 years old and will be superannuating from service soon. My current car is chauffeur-driven. I am now looking for a comfortable automatic car for city use that I can drive myself, with occasional long trips of up to 300 km. My budget is โ‚น8 lakh on-road. Please suggest suitable options.

There are quite a few automatic options within your budget. However, we'd narrow the list down to models with high seating, which are more convenient to get into and out of. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R would be the first model we'd recommend for you. Its high seating, excellent visibility and airy cabin are aspects you will appreciate. This Maruti car is easy to drive, and the brandโ€™s hassle-free ownership is a plus in its own right. Opt for the AMT gearbox with the more powerful 1.2-litre petrol engine.
Within the Maruti line-up, you could also look at the Ignis AMT, though ride comfort is a bit harsh. Other alternatives with high seating include the Nissan Magnite AMT, Renault Kiger AMT and Tata Punch AMT.

Hi. Iโ€™m a first-time car buyer with no driving experience, but I want to buy a CNG automatic car. Please suggest between the Tiago and the Tigor. It should be value for money. My monthly commute will be about 500 km in the city and a weekly highway trip of around 300-500 km.

If you want CNG with AMT, you have a limited choice. Tata Tiago is a better option between the two. While Tata Motors has not updated the product in some time now, there are very few CNG AMTs in the market currently.

If that is your requirement, then the Tata Tiago makes more sense. It offers better cabin space, and it has a usable boot despite the CNG cylinders taking up some luggage room.

The other option you can consider is the Nissan Magnite. It is easier on the pocket and has been updated recently. Maginte too comes with the CNG and AMT combination.

I have a budget of โ‚น7-8 lakh, and the Nissan Magnite CNG is one of my choices, but I am worried about its resale value. Can I switch to the Maruti Fronx CNG by increasing my budget to โ‚น9 lakh? However, I am concerned about safety there. Please suggest the best approach.

The Nissan Magnite CNG is available with a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is barely adequate to power this car. Furthermore, while running on CNG, performance will be lacklustre, and efficiency will also be low. And as you mentioned, resale value will be poor, hence it is best that you look at other options.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx gets all the basic safety features like ABS with EBD and ESP, which prevent an accident from happening in the first place. Additionally, there are 6 airbags to keep you protected in case of an impact. Do note that the Fronx's petrol engine is much smoother, and overall, it is much nicer to drive.

However, if you want a proven, safe CNG car, go for the Tata Punch or Tata Altroz. While their powertrain isn't as smooth or as good as Maruti's, these are practical and spacious alternatives.

I need a car for my family under 15 lakhs. My height is 6 ft, so smaller cars are uncomfortable for me. I would like to go for a safe & reliable car. My running is under 500km monthly, with 80% city and 20% highway. I'm okay with a pre-owned car/SUV as well. Thanks!

Given your height, we feel a compact SUV will best suit your requirements. Among the models within your budget, the Kia Syros is the roomiest and will be very comfortable for your build. There's a lot of space at the back too, and the luggage room is also good.
This Kia car comes packed with plenty of safety kit as standard, and has the added reassurance of a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. It is easy to drive, though the ride quality can feel slightly firm.
Of the other new options within your budget, the Nissan Magnite Turbo, Renault Kiger Turbo, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and lower trim versions of the Honda Elevate and Hyundai Creta are also worth a look.

Reasons for the upgrade: AMT fatigue, better highway safety, improved suspension, and a bit more space. My usage: 1. Bangalore (Whitefield), moderate city driving 2. Around 20 days of highway driving per year 3. Planning to keep the car for about 9 years Must-haves: 1. 360-degree camera 2. Budget of โ‚น15-16 lakh on-road (maximum) 3. Good suspension 4. Mileage is not a concern Considering the Hyundai Venue HX8 Turbo DCT with dealer-fitted 360-degree camera versus the Nissan Magnite Tekna+ Turbo CVT, which is feature-rich and reliable, at around โ‚น13 lakh? Which offers strong value for money? How do Magniteโ€™s reliability and service compare?

The Hyundai Venue HX8 Turbo DCT is the better pick for you. The Nissan Magnite Tekna+ Turbo CVT is a good option, but it competes more closely with cars like the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. If you are looking for something that feels more premium and will stay fresh in the long run, the new Hyundai Venue makes more sense.
While this Nissan car is more affordable on paper and offers impressive space, the Venue does most things a notch better if your budget allows. It feels more comfortable and premium, has better feature execution, and delivers a more polished overall driving experience.
In terms of reliability, both brands have a good track record. However, Hyundaiโ€™s wider service network is an advantage, especially if you plan to keep the car for a long time.

Suggest a family car for five members with good rear seat comfort within a โ‚น10 lakh budget. Is the Skoda Kylaq a good option?

The Nissan Magnite is a good option for you. It has a spacious cabin and a comfortable rear seat that can accommodate three adults.

Apart from a 1.0 NA petrol engine, the Magnite is also available with a punchy 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that can also be had with a CVT automatic. Meanwhile, the Skoda Kylaq's rear seat isn't as spacious for three adults.

Which is better between the Nissan Magnite and the Maruti Baleno base models? Which is more spacious and powerful?

The Nissan Magnite is a compact SUV, while the Maruti Baleno is a premium hatchback. The Magnite is more spacious and has a bigger boot, but the Baleno is more powerful and fuel-efficient.
If you want a car that is more spacious and has a higher seating position, then the Magnite is the better option. However, if you want a car that is more fun to drive and has a more premium feel, then the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the better option.

Please suggest which car to buy between the Renault Kiger Automatic and the Nissan Magnite Automatic. My budget is โ‚น11-12 lakh. Alternatively, you can suggest other options. My preference is automatic only.

The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger share their turbo-petrol CVT (automatic), which is a smooth yet powerful powertrain option.

Both cars have been refreshed recently with quite a few upmarket touches. Between the two, the Magnite looks a bit more SUVish and has slightly better cabin ergonomics.

If you have a Citroen touchpoint nearby, you must check out the C3 Turbo AT. It is a much better car at a more affordable price tag.

My budget is โ‚น8 lakh and my family has five members. I am looking for the best family car within this budget, with rear-seat comfort being the top priority. Please suggest suitable options.

Given your requirements, the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are worth a look. There's plenty of space for rear seat passengers, and there is enough room for three passengers to sit in the back in reasonable comfort.

You could also consider the superbly packaged Renault Triber. It's three rows of seats give lots of flexibility in seating, and the option to slide the middle row also means you can open up lots of legroom by moving the seat to its rearward position.

I need to change my car and am looking for an automatic petrol model. My monthly running is about 200-300 km in Bangalore city, and my budget is โ‚น10-12 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

There are a plethora of automatic petrol cars available within your budget. Given your monthly travel is just 200-300km, we will give less weightage to fuel economy and more weightage to driving comfort. As we don't know other preferences, here's a shortlist of the best options by body style -

Hatchback - Hyundai i20 IVT Asta (O), Citroen C3 X Shine AT
Compact sedan - Honda Amaze CVT ZX
Compact SUV - Nissan Magnite Turbo CVT, Renault Kiger Turbo CVT Emotion
