Dear team, I want to sell my Swift VDI diesel and am planning to buy the Citroen Aircross X. I really like the Aircross X design compared to all the compact SUVs. My budget is under โ‚น15 lakh. How would you rate the Citroen Aircross X in terms of reliability, safety, and drivability, especially with respect to after-sales service? Thank you.

The Citroen Aircross X is quite unconventional in its design and has a certain appeal. As a product, the Aircross X is fantastic value for money.

It doesnโ€™t exude the same richness as other mid-size SUVs that are better equipped. Still, it makes up for it with solid fundamentals, such as a brilliant 1.2 turbo petrol engine, comfortable seats, exceptional ride quality, and easy handling.

Itโ€™s pretty fuel-efficient, too. The only worry is the dealer network, which is quite poor and unresponsive, but we hear that after the X models of Citroen have been launched, the dealers are motivated to raise their game as well. This is certainly a car we would recommend, but with the rider that you thoroughly check out the Citroen dealer in your area before you sign the cheque.

I am planning to upgrade from a Polo. Should I go for the Citroen Basalt X or the Tata Sierra? My priorities are good build quality, driving dynamics, looks, and decent features.

While roughly in the same segment, the two cars you have listed are very different from one another and are at opposite ends of the price spectrum. However, both will meet your requirements, albeit at different levels.
The Citroen Basalt X, with its lower-powered 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, rides high off the ground but is closer to a sedan in concept. It has received a 4-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating and feels solidly built, but crucially, it has tight driving dynamics and is fun to drive. Its aggressive pricing also makes it an excellent value for money, especially with the upgrades introduced on the X variants.
The Tata Sierra is a larger, more expensive, and altogether more premium product. It doesn't yet have an NCAP rating, but it feels strongly built and will likely get a full 5-star rating, judging by Tataโ€™s track record. Though the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine of this Tata car is considerably more powerful than the Basalt X's 1.2, it doesn't feel punchy or exciting, and instead is very calm in its responses. Similarly, while its suspension is comfortable like the Basalt's, it doesn't feel tied down and suffers from lots of body roll. It has far more space and features than the Basalt X, though that also comes at a much higher price.
We would recommend the Citroen Basalt X overall, but since you are upgrading from a Polo, consider waiting for the Volkswagen Taigun facelift launching early next year, which will offer more features and aligns well with your preferences.

Iโ€™m looking to own a car that is reliable, has good resale value, and low maintenance cost. It should have high torque and be punchy, with good handling and a rugged body. My budget is up to โ‚น20 lakh. Please suggest.

These two cars are very different, so it depends on your preference. The Citroen Basalt X is a natural upgrade from your Polo, offering fantastic ride and handling, a strong 1.2 turbo-petrol engine, and a pleasure to drive. However, compared to the Tata Sierra, the Basalt feels a couple of segments down.

It is nowhere near as well-equipped, and in fact, the Sierraโ€™s most significant selling point is all the tech on offer, which includes three digital screens for the infotainment system, a top-notch audio system, ADAS features and a lot more. Also, the Sierra is more spacious and solidly built.  Being an SUV, the Sierra is not as agile as the Basalt, but it's still a pleasure to drive and hence overall fits your needs better.

My daily driving is about 50 km, mostly in the city. I am 56 years old and suffer from back pain. Is it good to buy a Mahindra Bolero or a Bolero Neo? Kindly advise.

If you have back pain, you need a car with well-contoured seats and good lumbar support. In this context, the Mahindra Bolero and Mahindra Bolero Neo are not ideal choices. Their seats are not particularly supportive, and the ride quality is on the firmer side, which may aggravate your discomfort.

Instead, the Citroen Aircross X is a better fit. The latest updates have improved the interior quality, the seats are comfortable, and the ride quality is excellent.

Its suspension setup does an excellent job of ironing out bad roads, making it a comfortable and back-friendly option.

Hi, Iโ€™m looking to buy my first car with an on-road budget of around โ‚น10 lakh in Chennai. I average about 500 km per month and also do trips to Coimbatore 3-4 times a year and occasional long drives, so comfort, features, reliability, and low maintenance are important. Iโ€™m considering the C3X Shine, 3XO, Baleno, Glanza, and Fronx, but Iโ€™m open to other suggestions that fit my usage and budget - please recommend the best choice.

We would lean towards the Citroen C3X Shine with the 1.2 turbo engine and six-speed AT. It's a little above your budget but will suit your needs best as it is extremely comfortable, has a superb suspension and the best powertrain for the price.

For highway driving, it is the best of all the options you have shortlisted because of the brilliant engine and dynamics. However, we have added that Citroenโ€™s dealer network is not the best, and hence, after-sales service could be a worry.

If you want to play safe, go for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, it's well equipped, reliable and comes with low-cost maintenance. Itโ€™s just that for your budget, you will get the 1.2 petrol mated to an AMT, which is nowhere near as nice to drive as the C3X.

I am planning to buy the Citroen Aircross X. My daily commute is around 60km of highway driving. My budget is โ‚น16 lakh, and we are a family of two. Kindly share your expert advice.

The Citroen Aircross X is a comfortable car which will not tire you after a 60km highway drive every day. The ride quality is exceptional, and the punchy 1.2 turbo petrol makes overtaking quite easy. We assume you will be opting for the automatic variant, which is quite smooth and responsive.
Our only concern is the Citroenโ€™s dealer network, which is quite poor, so you will have to be careful of this. See how responsive and proactive your dealer is. If the dealer doesnโ€™t get back to you in a timely way and needs constant follow ups to close the deal, walk away. A dealer who is not bothered to sell you a car will be less inclined to service it.

Please suggest which car to buy between the Renault Kiger Automatic and the Nissan Magnite Automatic. My budget is โ‚น11-12 lakh. Alternatively, you can suggest other options. My preference is automatic only.

The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger share their turbo-petrol CVT (automatic), which is a smooth yet powerful powertrain option.

Both cars have been refreshed recently with quite a few upmarket touches. Between the two, the Magnite looks a bit more SUVish and has slightly better cabin ergonomics.

If you have a Citroen touchpoint nearby, you must check out the C3 Turbo AT. It is a much better car at a more affordable price tag.

I need to change my car and am looking for an automatic petrol model. My monthly running is about 200-300 km in Bangalore city, and my budget is โ‚น10-12 lakh. Please suggest suitable options.

There are a plethora of automatic petrol cars available within your budget. Given your monthly travel is just 200-300km, we will give less weightage to fuel economy and more weightage to driving comfort. As we don't know other preferences, here's a shortlist of the best options by body style -

Hatchback - Hyundai i20 IVT Asta (O), Citroen C3 X Shine AT
Compact sedan - Honda Amaze CVT ZX
Compact SUV - Nissan Magnite Turbo CVT, Renault Kiger Turbo CVT Emotion

Hello Autocar, kindly help me choose between the Elevate ZX Manual and the Aircross Pure Tech AT for driving in city in weekdays and hills and highways in weekends. I want a fun-to-ride but equally comfortable ride for rear seat passengers.

Both the Honda Elevate and the Citroen Aircross have a very good ride quality and are powered by responsive engines.

For your requirements, you would not go wrong with either. However, to quantify between the two, we would rate the Aircross better in terms of ride quality, engine performance and refinement. Thus, we would recommend you pick the Citroen since driving pleasure and ride quality are very important to you.

However, make sure there is a dealer in your area and in the areas you plan to drive to, as the Citroen network is very sparse at the moment.
