Mercedes, BMW, Porsche, JLR see highest-ever India sales in 2024

Mercedes and BMW India recorded their highest-ever annual sales of 19,565 units and 15,012 units, each, in 2024; Porsche crossed the 1,000 unit mark for the first time.

The previous year seems to have been a good one for luxury carmakers in India, with Mercedes, Porsche, JLR and BMW reporting record sales figures and double-digit growth. In 2024, the Indian luxury car market is estimated to have grown 6 percent, racking up sales of 51,500 units (breaking the 50,000 mark for the first time).

Mercedes-Benz India sales in 2024

Mercedes continues its sales dominance in the luxury segment, with sales of 19,565 units in 2024. The brand reports that the top-end vehicle (TEV) segment – models priced over Rs 1 crore – grew by 30 percent year-on-year and accounted for one in every four cars sold by Mercedes. Its all-electric portfolio, which consists of six models, increased by 94 percent compared to the previous year, contributing to over 6 percent of Merc’s total sales for the year.

The German company is looking to launch six more models this year, and has already launched the G-Class Electric (G 580 with EQ Technology) and the EQS SUV 450.

BMW India sales in 2024

The BMW Group in India retailed a total of 15,721 cars and SUVs last year – BMW sold 15,012 units (registering a 13 percent increase), while Mini had sales of 709 units. The 3 Series was the brand’s highest-selling sedan, accounting for 20 percent of total sales, while the X5 was its most popular SUV, helping improve the brand's SUV sales by 16 percent compared to 2023. The 5 Series LWB, which launched late last year, has already sold 1,000 units. BMW says that the iX is still its most sold EV, while the i7 (384 units), 7 Series (865 units) and X7 (1,570 units) are said to be the bestselling models in their respective segments.

Porsche India sales in 2024

Porche recorded sales of 1,006 units in 2024, marking the first time that the German performance brand has sold over 1,000 units in a year. With 454 Cayennes, 259 Macans and 156 units of the 911, 718 Cayman and Boxster delivered in 2024, Porsche India registered a growth of 10 percent.

JLR India sales in 2024

In the first nine months of FY2025 (April-December 2024), JLR India reported retails of 4,390 units, registering a year-on-year increase of 23 percent. In fact, the brand claims that sales during the first nine months of this fiscal year have already equalled FY2024 sales, which means JLR is set to have record sales in the current financial year. The Defender continues to be the bestselling model, and the brand reports that the exclusive Range Rover Ranthambore, which was limited to 12 units and priced from Rs 4.95 crore (ex-showroom), sold out within a week of its launch.
