MG Motor India has entered into a partnership with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to expand its EV charging infrastructure. The move makes MG Motor India one of the first passenger car companies to tie up with the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) to promote the adoption of green mobility.
In February, Hero MotoCorp and BPCL partnered to set up electric vehicle charging stations across the country. Even Honda and Hindustan Petroleum have taken a similar approach by planning to set up battery swapping stations.
According to the understanding, MG and BPCL will install EV chargers across the country by jointly creating and managing the charging systems.
MG Motor India president and MD Rajeev Chaba said, “The key to a successful transition to electric mobility is a robust EV ecosystem. Along with our ecosystem partners, we are working to create a vast network of EV charging stations, in addition to battery recycling and battery second life solutions for end-to-end sustainability for electric vehicles. Our customers also benefit from the unique 6-way charging ecosystem that makes using an EV every day much easier.”
BPCL chairman and MD Arun Kumar Singh said, “We aim to address the three big anxieties amongst electric vehicle owners (range, time and discovery) in order to build consumer confidence in EVs.”
BPCL is setting up fast-charging corridors across major highways, inter-connecting major cities and economic hubs, and aims to have a network of 7,000 conveniently located fast-charging stations in the country in the next two to three years. Indian Oil also plans to install 10,000 EV charging stations in fuel stations across the country. These fast-charging stations will come with a host of customer amenities like restrooms, micro-ATMs and more.
