Francesco Bagnaia clinched victory in a thrilling German MotoGP race after his title rival Jorge Martin crashed out with just three laps to go. Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez finished second and third, repectively, making this yet another race where the podium was locked out by the Bolognese bullets.

  1. Bagnaia is now the most successful Ducati rider
  2. Both Marquez brothers on podium
  3. Franco Morbidelli finishes in top 5

Bagnaia victorious as Martin crashes out, Marquez’ on podium

The early laps of the German GP saw Bagnaia lead the race before Martin overtook him. Since then, the Spaniard had a decisive lead over his chief title rival before a perilous braking move on Lap 27 saw him crash out of the lead. This gave the two-time MotoGP World Champion the race lead and now Bagnaia leads the standings by 10 points.

Early in the race, Alex Marquez moved up from fifth place to secure second. He held onto second position for a significant portion of the race before his brother Marc overtook him in the penultimate laps. Marc, the eight-time World Champion, made an impressive comeback from 13th on the grid to clinch second place on the podium, despite suffering a major highside in Saturday’s qualifying session.

Morbidelli shows pace, battles with Marquez, Bastianini

Franco Morbidelli had a tough start to the 2024 MotoGP season with a pre-season crash that effectively ruled him out of testing the Ducati GP24 machine. But, slowly and steadily, the VR46 academy rider has been making strides and was running third in the race for quite some distance. In the early laps, he even overtook Bagnaia and was running in second place at one point.

Initially, Morbidelli was battling with the elder Marquez sibling, and at one point, the two riders clashed, but they continued with their races. After Marc Marquez overtook Morbidelli, he fell into the clutches of factory Ducati rider, Enea Bastianini. The two had quite the skirmish and they traded places multiple times in the span of a couple of laps. Ultimately, Bastianini outpaced the Pramac Ducati rider to finish fourth and Morbidelli finished the race in fifth place.

2024 MotoGP championship standings

MotoGP is heading into the summer break, with the next round scheduled for August 2-4 at Silverstone. As the season pauses, Bagnaia leads the points table by 10 points, with Martin now in the runner-up position. 2025 factory Ducati rider and Bagnaia’s teammate next year, Marc Marquez, holds the third place in the standings.
