With 680hp and 1020Nm, acceleration is savage with a sledgehammer-like thrust. It also sustains its performance at the top end, with revs maxing out at 7000rpm.

Being a plug-in hybrid, it can be driven in electric-only mode for 13km. It gets a 6.1kWh battery and an electric motor on the rear axle that develops 204hp/320Nm under full boost.

Its 50:50 weight distribution, rear-axle steering and all-wheel drive system do a stellar job of masking its 2.1-tonne kerb weight.

Interior, although fantastically built and appointed, feels too similar to the half-priced C43. Hence, it doesn’t feel all that special.

At Rs 1.95 crore (ex-showroom), the new C 63 doesn’t have the character of the older V8s, but in terms of outright performance, it is leagues ahead of any C63 before it.
