Tyre care tips

For monsoon

Depth check

Tyre tread helps channel water away, increasing grip
Critical to have sufficient tread depth – 2mm minimum
If Ashoka symbol on Re 1 coin is visible – tyres should be replaced

Age verification

Tyres also have an expiry and shouldn’t be used after
If cracks and cuts are visible, tyres should be replaced

Firm footing

Traction is considerably less on wet roads
Driving slowly and carefully limit the chances of aquaplaning
Aquaplaning is when a thin layer of water is trapped between the tyre and road

Switch off cruise control

Cruise control maintains a set speed
It will not adjust for puddles and varying rain
Best to have manual control of throttle and brake to adjust to road conditions

Slow down for puddles

Puddles hide large potholes and can cause kickback on the tyres
Slow down to gauge how deep a pothole is and if difficult, best to walk through before driving

Keep a larger safe distance

Stopping distances increases with increasing speed
This distance increases in wet conditions
Maintain a safe distance from the car in front
