In pictures

Well, its actually Neo

Was co-developed by Tata and Jayem Automotive
Project was initiated in 2015
Chairman Ratan Tata was closely involved
Two versions were planned: 48V and 72V

What’s powering it?

A 17kWh Lithium-ion battery
Single electric motor
27hp, 68Nm peak output
Driving range: 120-140km
Top-speed: 80kph
Gets regenerative braking

Driving experience

Smooth, progressive once you build up speed
Easy to manoeuvre on narrow roads
Eliminates gearbox drawbacks of regular Nano
Struggles to build speed and climb up on slopes

Ride and Handling

Gets retuned front suspension
More comfortable than petrol Nano
Has some thudding at higher speeds
Steering is light & easy
Refinement, insulation levels are poor

Charging time

Regular home charging: 7.5 hours to full charge
Fast Charger: 0-80 percent in 75 mins
Running cost: Re 1/km

What killed the Neo?

Emission and safety regulations killed the regular Nano
The Neo was dropped along with its ICE sibling

Case of what could have been…

An electric Nano makes great sense for city commutes
Was perhaps too soon for its time
