Trending Questions on Volkswagen Cars - Answered by Autocar Experts
I am looking for a fun-to-drive car under โน15 lakhs. I am an enthusiastic driver and would like a car with really good performance. Other priorities are a decent list of features, especially a good speaker system. Automatic or manual, both are fine. I want to avoid Maruti and Nissan/Renault cars. I could stretch my budget to โน20 lakhs if thereโs a compelling option.
Hi, I would like to replace my 2015 Ford Figo diesel with a new car. I quite like the new ล koda Kushaq and want to buy the 1.0-litre automatic. My primary usage will be around the city, with 3-4 highway runs in a month. Should I go for it or wait for the VW Taigun facelift? With these turbo engines, will the fuel efficiency take a hit? Please advise.
The Skoda Kushaq is a good choice for your requirements. The 115hp, 1.0-litre TSI engine is peppy, the cabin is comfortable, and the build quality is good too. Coming from your Ford Figo, you will also enjoy the driving experience. As for fuel efficiency, yes, the turbo-petrol engine will be less efficient than your current diesel. In our efficiency tests, the Kushaq 1.0 TSI with the 6-speed AT delivered just 8.5kpl in the city and 12.4kpl out on the highway. However, the updated Kushaq comes with an 8-speed gearbox, so expect slightly better efficiency.
As for the Volkswagen Taigun facelift, it will essentially be the same car as the Kushaq. So there won't be much difference in terms of performance, efficiency or comfort. The notable differences will be in the exterior styling and certain features.
So it only makes sense to wait for the facelift if you really like the look of the Taigun better than the Kushaq.
Want to buy an SUV for around Rs 50 to 60 lakh. Five-seater preferred. Driving dynamics and comfort are priorities. Daily driving of around 40 km.
Hi Autocar, I am looking to upgrade from my Kia Seltos to a bigger and more spacious car, preferably a 6 or 7 seater. I have shortlisted a few cars: Mahindra XUV 7XO, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron. Is it worth paying the premium for the Kodiaq or Tayron over the 7XO? I liked the XUV 7XO in a short test drive. I still need to test drive the Kodiaq. Please give me your opinion on the same. Thank you.
I want to upgrade from Wagon R CNG to a new car with a budget of Rs 12 to 15 lakh. I normally drive in the city, with occasional highway trips. I preferably want a sedan. Annual usage is 10,000 to 15,000 km. Also suggest EVs.
I have recently purchased a Tata Punch and am very satisfied with the car. Previously, I owned a Dzire and a Honda Civic. Now, I am planning to buy a German car, and my budget will be around โน50 lakh (on EMI). I am confused about which one to go for. Since this budget puts me close to the premium car market in India, I have shortlisted brands like the Jeep Meridian, VW Tayron, Fortuner, etc. My priorities are good mileage (expecting at least 15 kmpl), top-notch performance, luxury seating and comfort, and decent looks. The powertrain would be petrol manual only. Please suggest a suitable choice.
Hi everyone, I am planning to buy my first car for my family and am specifically looking for an automatic transmission. After visiting multiple showrooms, I have shortlisted the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5, Skoda Kylaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. My budget is โน15 lakh, which can be extended up to โน17 lakh. My daily usage will mainly be within the city, averaging around 30-40 km. I have also heard that the Volkswagen Tera is expected to launch in India this year. Should I wait for the Tera or go ahead with one of my shortlisted options? Please help me decide, as I am quite confused.
According to Autocar India's exclusive, Volkswagen's sub-4-meter SUV is expected only in 2027. This year, VW will launch the facelifted Taigun. Skoda has already unveiled the updated Kushaq, and VW will follow soon.
And if you don't want to wait longer, you can consider the Skoda Kylaq. It comes with a fresh look, an updated cabin, improved AC performance and an 8-speed AT paired with the 1 litre Turbo, for a smoother drive and better efficiency.
Hi There, I am planning to buy VW Tayron R-line which is about to be launched. Though my driving is not much, ~1000KM/month, I liked that SUV which seems to be more VFM over Kodiak or X1. My only concern is about VW DSG gearbox. I have read and watched many news which talks about the unreliability of DCT gearbox, how it tends to heat and prone to quick wear and tear than torque conv or CVT. I need your kind advice before I make a decision. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line is shaping up to be an interesting SUV. It is nicely loaded with features - more so than the imported Tiguan R-Line - and features sporty looks and a powerful engine. As for the DSG gearbox, yes, dual-clutch gearboxes have been known to experience greater wear than torque-converters or CVTs, but that is only if they're not handled with care, and mostly in stop-and-go conditions.
Best practices like shifting out of D at a standstill, rolling off smoothly will greatly prolong the life of the gearbox, and of course not skimping on recommended maintenance. Moreover, these issues were more prominent in older iterations of the DSG used on smaller cars, like the Polo's DQ200, things have been greatly improved in newer iterations and on larger cars with more powerful engines; the Tayron uses a newer DQ381-7A.
As for VFM, we do not know the price as yet, though the hope is that local assembly will at least make it competitive. However, later this year, Volkswagen will launch a standard version of the Tayron, without the R-Line specification, that will miss the body kit and some features, and that could be the one to pick.
We presently own a 2014 Honda City Diesel as our secondary car and an Innova Crysta Diesel as our primary vehicle. Our usage is approximately 60% city and 40% highway. We are considering purchasing a new secondary car; however, upgrade options for sedan enthusiasts are quite limited. Kindly suggest suitable new car options within a budget of โน20 lakhs.
Hi, I am planning to buy a petrol manual car with a budget of Rs 18 lakh. My dream car from my graduation is the Mahindra Thar or ROXX. But as I am married now, I am also thinking of the Skoda Kushaq or Volkswagen Taigun. Kindly please suggest to me whether I should go with the Thar or others. And one major thing is that the majority of the drive will be on hill roads and bad roads. So please suggest to me accordingly. Thank you.
