Kia India is all set to launch the new Carnival in the country on October 3, with bookings for the MPV now open. The third-gen version of the MPV was sold in the country until its discontinuation in June 2023. The fourth-gen Carnival received a facelift in November last year globally, and is now headed to India. Here, we answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the upcoming new Kia Carnival.
The India-spec Carnival comes equipped with features like a dual electric sunroofs, second-row electricaly adjustable captain seats with ventilation and heating function and extendable leg support, three-zone climate control, power-sliding rear doors, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, dual 12.3-inch curved displays as well as an ADAS safety suite.
The new Carnival will be brought to India as a CBU initially. Hence, it is expected to be priced over Rs 50 lakh. Local assembly is expected to begin a little later, which will likely bring its price down. Official bookings for the MPV commenced earlier this week for a token amount of Rs 2 lakh. It will be available in two variants - Limousine and Limousine Plus.
Upon arrival, the new Carnival will have no direct rivals at its price point. It will sit between the Toyota Innova Hycross (Rs 19.77 lakh-30.98 lakh) and the Vellfire (Rs 1.22 crore-1.32 crore). In the future, once Kia starts local assembly of the MPV, it will serve as a premium alternative to the higher variants of the Innova Hycross. For reference, the previous-gen Carnival, which was locally assembled here from CKD kits, was priced from Rs 30.99 lakh onwards before its discontinuation.
While the previous-gen Carnival was available with 7-, 8- or 9-seats in India, the new Carnival will be available with a 7-seat (2+2+3) setup only at launch. The second row will feature captain seats, while the third row will be a bench-type unit. The Limousine variant offers manual sliding and reclining function for the second-row seats, while Limousine Plus gets heating and ventilation functions along with electric adjustment.
The new Kia Carnival will be offered with the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that was seen on the previous-gen version here in India. However, the engine now puts out 193hp and 441Nm of peak torque. The torque is up by 1Nm over the previous-gen Carnival, but the engine makes 7hp lesser than before. The engine will be mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, sending power to the front wheels only.
