Toyota Innova Hycross or BYD eMax 7: buy a hybrid or an electric MPV?

I’m frequently chauffeured to Mumbai and Ahmedabad from Surat in our Toyota Innova Crysta. The car is now 5 years old and has clocked around 2 lakh km. Hence, I’m looking for a replacement with low running costs. I’ve shortlisted the Maruti Invicto hybrid Zeta Plus, Toyota Innova Hycross hybrid VX and the BYD eMax 7 electric Premium.

Autocar India says: Being an EV, the BYD will be extremely economical if you charge the vehicle at your home or office, much more than the hybrid twins. However, you’ll be seated in a knees-up position at the rear, which might not be very comfortable for long drives. The Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto offer a comfier backseat experience compared to the BYD, and thanks to their hybrid powertrain, they’ll be very fuel-efficient, too. Between the two, pick the brand you’re comfortable with and choose the one that gives you the better deal – you won't go wrong with either.
