Datsun Redigo vs Renault Kwid comparison photo gallery
It’s hard to believe that the Datsun Redigo and Renault Kwid are closely related, when seen in the flesh. Both cars share the same platform and running gear, but follow two different designs. The Kwid’s design is more compact crossover-like than hatchback with a very Duster-like nose. Datsun has gone with a space-efficient design with a tall cabin and short overhangs and nose. The Kwid leads in length and wheelbase, while the Datsun is the taller of the two. The Datsun also has an extra 5mm of ground clearance than the Kwid, though both cars use small 13-inch wheels. The Kwid’s rear design is quite plain with the main focus being on emphasising the car’s width. The Redigo’s tail though has more character with a prominent crease running across the bootlid and upright tail-lamps that emphasise the tall-boy design. The Redigo’s boot is tricky to load with its high loading lip. The Kwid’s boot on the other hand not only has a lower loading lip but also has a wider opening. The Kwid’s dash is dominated by the large touchscreen infotainment system though the dull colours are a let-down. It also has more usable storage spaces than the Redigo. Compared to the Redigo, you sit lower in the Kwid, but this makes the driving position feels more natural. The Kwid’s rear seats are lower set than the Datsun’s, but are still spacious and comfortable. The Kwid’s digital speedo is clear and crisp; but no tachometer. Touchscreen infotainment system with navigation is a big draw for buyers and the Kwid is the only car in the segment to feature this. The 799cc three-cylinder engine may be shared but the stronger mid-range on the Kwid makes it the better car to drive. 300-litre boot of the Kwid continues to outclass all its rivals. Light colour scheme in Redigo cabin adds to airy ambience; fixed triangular AC vent pointed directly at rear seats. Tall driving position of the Redigo allows for great outside visibility. Datsun’s back seat is marginally higher, with a bit more space. The Redigo’s instrument cluster is the same unit as on the larger GO and Go+. The Redigo gets a CD player with USB connectivity though it can’t match up the Kwid’s touchscreen infotainment system. Power delivery in the Redigo isn’t the smoothest, but once the car is moving it easily keeps up with city traffic. 220-litre boot is up to class standards but can’t rival the Kwid’s. Born of the same architecture, the Datsun Redigo and the Renault Kwid may have similar underpinnings but are completely different in character.
