The Baleno, when launched will sit above the Swift in Maruti's line-up and rival the likes of the Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20.
Measuring 3,995mm in length, 1,745mm in width and 1,500mm in height, the Baleno is larger than the Swift but weighs around 100kg less.
At 170mm, the India-spec Baleno sits 20mm higher than its international sibling.
Single-tone interiors look classy but makes them feel a bit gloomy.
The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine is essentially the same unit as on the Swift but in a different state of tune.
The 1.2-litre petrol is also the same unit as on the Swift but now gets the option of a CVT gearbox.
The SmartPlay infotainment system comes equipped with Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is also expected to be introduced in the near future.
Generous 339-litre boot is way bigger than the one on the Swift.
The rear seat is spacious and offers good legroom and can seat three abreast though headroom can get a bit tight.
The top-spec Baleno comes equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels.
The rear-seats can be folded to increase luggage capacity.
The blue backlight instrument panel stands out in the all-black interior.
Rear seat passengers have access to a 12V charging socket.
The multi-information display comes equipped with a multitude of functions including real time fuel economy, average speed, range and a unique power and torque meter.
Projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights are only equipped on the top-spec Baleno.

The new Baleno is Maruti Suzuki's answer to the Hyundai i20 and Honda Jazz. Here's a photo gallery.
