    2017 Shanghai motor show preview

The Shanghai motor show is one of the world’s largest, with a list of exhibitors longer than most others in the motor show ranks. Here’s a list of all the cars expected to make an appearance at this year’s event which takes place from April 21-28.

    BMW M4 CS

BMW’s super sporty version of the M4 takes the brand’s legendary CS badge. Originally planned for the Spanish market alone, the M4 CS will be offered in further markets following its Shanghai appearance.

    Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini’s Urus SUV will take the Italian supercar brand to a larger and 'more female' market, the brand hopes, while providing one of the first rivals to the Bentley Bentayga.

    Lynk&Co 01

The inaugural car from Geely's new Lynk&Co brand, the 01 SUV, will be the “most connected car to date” according to the company, and is based on the underpinnings of the new Volvo XC40. It’ll be followed by 02 and 03 models, but will kick-start what Geely hopes will be a prolific brand for a new generation of car owners.

    Skoda Vision E concept

The third Volkswagen Group SUV, called the Vision E, due to appear at Shanghai 2017, comes from Skoda, and will be a concept precursor to the brand’s first electric vehicle. It will go on sale internationally in 2020, following the launch of the Superb hatchback’s PHEV variant.

    Mercedes-Benz A-class sedan

Mercedes doesn’t miss a beat when it comes to new niches, and it’s hot on the heels of the Audi A3 saloon with the A-class sedan heading for Shanghai. The car that will be showcased won’t be a production version, more a near production-ready concept, but the final version shouldn’t stray too far from it. The popularity of BMW's China-only 1-series sedan makes Shanghai the most likely location for the A-class sedan's debut, although it's not yet officially confirmed.

    Mercedes-Benz S-class facelift

Mercedes’ biggest sedan will also get a Shanghai motor show debut, and will be the most highly autonomous car the brand has produced yet. The new driver assistance systems will make use of digital mapping data.

    VLF Force 1 V10 roadster

Shanghai will be the time for the roadster variant of the VLF Force 1 coupé to come to the fore. No details have yet been released – only a vague preview sketch of the car’s design is out.

    Volkswagen ID SUV

    Volkswagen ID hatchback

Volkswagen’s ID electric vehicle offensive continues, with what, given the current market climate, could prove to be the best-seller of the range. It follows the ID hatchback and the ID Buzz concepts, all of which use the Volkswagen Group's new MEB electric vehicle platform.

    Lexus NX facelift

Lexus' rival to the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is getting a mid-life refresh, will be revealed at the Shanghai motor show. Lexus isn't giving much away, but promises interior technology and convenience features in addition to the exterior tweaks.

    Citroën C5 Aircross

Citroën’s C5 Aircross was recently previewed at the 2017 Geneva motor show in design sketches revealed by CEO Linda Jackson. Styling is expected to differ only slightly from the sketches, while the model will continue the C5 nameplate.

    Mini Countryman plug-in hybrid

Mini's first electrified model will go on sale internationally in June after being revealed in Shanghai. The car's powertrain is expected to provide an electric-only range of up to 48km.

    Qoros Super EV concept

Qoros has teamed up with Koenigsegg to produce the Super EV concept: a 500km-range, four-door, four-seat supercar. Only a few details have been released of the car, but the murky teaser images which have been released show a rakish but chunky coupé silhouette with short overhangs and a similar layer surfacing appearance to the BMW i8.
