Bengaluru-based start-up, Ather Energy, is at the forefront of EV technology in the country. The brand's current portfolio includes two scooters – the 340 and 450, and at the moment, Ather is available only in its home city of Bengaluru. However, that is all set to change as the company will soon expand to other states.
Ather has always said that it plans to set up its own EV charging infrastructure (called AtherGrid) in every city that it will sell its products in. This is a big reason why it is taking the company so long to expand. However, in a recent post on social media, the company confirmed that it was on track with its expansion plans to Chennai and Pune by the second half of this year. While there aren't any fixed dates yet, the post also mentions that Hyderabad and Delhi will be the cities that will follow by early next year.
Co-founder and CEO of the company, Tarun Mehta, also posted a picture of a warehouse filled with a number of Ather scooters ready for delivery. He mentions that the company has ramped up production and that they are running out of space for the finished goods inventory. This will come as a relief to those waiting for deliveries.
At present, the company is only accepting pre-orders in Bengaluru, and Karnataka is the only state it can be registered in. The 340 costs Rs 1.15 lakh and the 450 will set you back Rs 1.30 lakh (on-road, Bengaluru).
