It’s like an American bagger, except with German sensibilities. The K 1600 GTL is the top-of-the-line tourer in BMW Motorrad’s range, and is powered by a 1,649cc, inline-six, liquid-cooled engine that puts out 160hp at 7,750rpm and 175Nm at 5,250rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a shaft drive through a six-speed gearbox.
The suspension set-up consists of the Duolever system up front, which consists of a central spring strut, and the Paralever suspension round the back with a monoshock. The K 1600 GTL measures a good 2,489mm in length, with a wheelbase of 1,618mm, seat height of 750mm and wet weight of 350kg.
As befits a luxury tourer, the K 1600 GTL comes crammed with equipment and features. It gets ABS Pro, electronically adaptive suspension, three riding modes and dynamic traction control. Comfort features include central locking, heated seat, electrically adjustable windscreen, switchgear-mounted multi-controller and adjustable seat height. Optional equipment includes reversing aid, Akrapovic sports silencer, adaptive headlight, emergency call system, hill start assist, keyless ride, front speakers, shift assist and additional luggage bins.
The K 1600 GTL is priced at Rs 25.9 lakh (Standard) and Rs 28.5 lakh (Pro) (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
