At Rs 5.94 lakh, the BS6 Z650 costs Rs 25,000 more than the 2019 model

Kawasaki has launched the 2020 Z650 in India at Rs 5.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India). At this price, the new BS6-compliant model costs only Rs 25,000 more than the model it replaces. As we saw with the 2020 Ninja 650 this bike is also priced lower than the inflated price estimate of Rs 6.25-6.50 lakh Kawasaki announced back in December 2019. Bookings can be made via Kawasaki dealerships or through the company's website.
What's new on the 2020 Z650?
For 2020, the Z650 gets a sharper ‘Sugomi’ design and a redesigned LED headlight. The updated model also features Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres, and a 4.3-inch full-TFT instrument console that includes Bluetooth, GPS logs and smartphone connectivity.
While the 649cc parallel-twin engine remains largely unchanged, it now has a revised exhaust and airbox to help it meet BS6 emission norms. Like the 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650’s engine, the unit in the Z650 now makes 68hp and 64Nm of torque. When compared to the BS4 bike, power remains the same, while torque has dropped by a marginal 1.7Nm. At 191kg, the Z650’s kerb weight is 5kg less than it's fully-faired twin.
What about competition?
The Z650's rivals haven't yet been updated to meet the BS6 emission norms. The only other BS6 bike in this price range apart from its fully-faired twin is the Harley-Davidson Street 750. Speaking of, Harley-Davidson recently announced that its limited-edition BS6 Street 750 was for sale at a discounted price of Rs 4.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
