TVS has updated the Scooty Pep Plus to comply with the BS6 norms that have just come into effect. Prices for the updated scooter start at Rs 51,754 and go up to Rs 52,954 for the Babelicious and Matte editions (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively. These prices are between Rs 6,400 and Rs 6,700 more than their corresponding BS4 models, but despite the hike, the Scooty Pep Plus will continue to be TVS’ most affordable scooter offering.

TVS has not updated its website with technical specifications yet, but we expect the Scooty Pep Plus to be powered by the same 87.8cc single-cylinder engine. However, we will likely see a switch to a fuel-injection system in place of the carburettor, and it may also result in a drop from the current peak output figures of 5hp at 6,500rpm and 5.8Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.

The Scooty Pep is the only remaining example of a scooter with a 90cc engine and the fact that it’s moving into the BS6 norms with the same engine is an indication that TVS won’t be upsizing its engine in the near future. Most scooters on sale currently fall into either the 110cc segment or the 125cc segment, and this puts the Scooty Pep at a major disadvantage, with regards to performance. On the flipside, the smaller engine could deliver better fuel efficiency. Taking its displacement into consideration, it has no direct rivals and its closest competitor is the BS6 Hero Pleasure Plus 110, which, at Rs 54,800, costs just around Rs 3,000 more but offers significantly better performance.
