Most powerful Jawa offering
Jawa’s Perak is powered by a BS6-compliant 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine which develops 30hp and 31Nm of torque. At this capacity, the Perak's engine is slightly larger than that of the Jawa and the Forty Two. This increased capacity is a result of a larger bore, with the stroke remaining unchanged. In comparison, the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two make 27hp and 28Nm of torque. We can’t wait to get our hands on the Perak to see how it delivers the additional power.
Styling
The Perak looks very different from the Jawa and the Forty Two. It's got a low stance, which also makes it look quite a bit longer. The bike also gives up all the chrome for a matte-black treatment. The Perak is a single-seater and features a different toolbox design. The Bobber-like styling elements include a floating seat, bar-end mirrors, chopped fenders, and stubby exhaust mufflers. We really like how the Perak isn’t a half-hearted attempt at being a Bobber; and that Jawa has gone all the way with it.
Unique subframe
Giving the Perak that bobber stance is its unique subframe-and-suspension setup at the rear. While it does mimic the styling of hardtail motorcycles, this one runs a monoshock that is tucked away under the rider’s seat. That said, this isn’t the first time a manufacturer has opted for a suspension setup of this kind; we have seen it previously on the Triumph Bonneville bobber. Interestingly, while the Jawa and the Forty Two can be had with a drum-brake option at the rear, the Perak is only available in one variant that comes with disc brakes at both ends.
Most affordable bobber in India
Not only is the Perak the most affordable bobber in India, it’s got that title in the bag by a huge margin. The Triumph Bonneville bobber comes the closest, at Rs 10.28 lakh – more than five times the price of the Perak. The other two Bobbers on sale are the Harley-Davidson Street Bob (Rs 12.68 lakh) and the Indian Scout bobber (Rs 13.15 lakh).
Price and availability
Jawa recently launched the Perak at Rs 1.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Perak was first showcased with a Rs 1.89 lakh price tag. The near Rs 6,000 increase is likely a result of the engine being upgraded to meet the new BS6 emission norms.
Jawa will begin to accept bookings for the Perak on January 1, 2020. However, the bike maker has revealed that deliveries for the motorcycle will begin much later, on April 2, 2020. This is quite a significant waiting period – just like we saw with the last two Jawa models.
