Kawasaki KLX 230 S engine, seat height, launch details
Since we have established that this is the 2024 model of the KLX230 S, we can now give you some concrete facts and figures. The seat height is 843mm, while ground clearance is 239mm. The US-spec model weighs 133kg, but with accessories like a saree guard, front number plate holder and a pillion grab rail being legal necessities in India, we expect it to weigh closer to 140kg.
The Kawasaki KLX230 S is powered by an air-cooled, 233cc, 2-valve, single-cylinder engine. Kawasaki does not list official power and torque figures on its international websites, but the company does sell the off-road-only version of this bike in India – the KLX 230R S. The engine in that bike produces 20hp at 8,000rpm and 20.6Nm at 6,000rpm. If it gets similar figures (or lower to account for emissions compliance) in India, its output will be slightly higher than the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, which makes 19.2hp at 8,500rpm and 17.35Nm at 6,500rpm.
While the bike in these images does appear production-ready, the launch could be some time away as Kawasaki India needs to sort out its supply chain and production facilities to accommodate an extra model, alongside the W175 and Ninja 300.
