Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450: clearest spy shots yet

Guerrilla 450 has simpler components and seems more accessible than Himalayan.

We've reported previously that the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 (the neo-retro roadster based on the Himalayan 450’s platform) will launch in the coming months, and now, the bike has been spotted testing again. The image is clearer this time, which allows us to glean more information.

In earlier spy images, we weren’t able to get a close look at the Guerrilla 450, but this one shows us details like the shape of the fuel tank; it's quite similar to the new Himalayan. All signs indicate that the Guerrilla will be a lighter and more accessible machine than the Himalayan, so it's likely that it will have a smaller tank.

Since this bike is based on Royal Enfield’s 452cc platform, a lot of elements like the design of the swingarm, the main frame, the engine and its cooling system, the LED headlight, and even the pillion foot peg hangers are the same as the Himalayan.

We can also see that the Guerrilla 450 gets a circular display, but it remains to be seen whether it is the same TFT unit as the Himalayan or the digi-analogue unit seen on other Royal Enfield bikes like the Shotgun 650. The Guerrilla’s chief competition comes from the capable and well-priced Triumph Speed 400, and that bike uses a digi-analogue display.

The Guerrilla 450’s telescopic fork and wheel design have been spotted on previous occasions, but this time, we have gotten a glimpse of the tyre tread as well; this test mule comes shod with dual-purpose tyres.

In case of Royal Enfield’s other platforms, the shared engine makes the same peak output figures at the same rpms across the board. There are some minor changes to the mapping and the final drive gearing but the core essence of the motor stays unchanged. Therefore, it is quite likely that the 452cc motor will make the same 40hp and 40Nm in the Guerrilla as it does in the Himalayan.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan is currently priced between Rs 2.85 lakh-2.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai), and considering the simpler hardware on offer here, we expect the Guerrilla 450 to be priced more affordably. However, it remains to be seen exactly where the Guerrilla slots into the Royal Enfield line-up.

For reference, the two closest rivals to the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, the Triumph Speed 400 and the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 are priced at Rs 2.34 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively. We expect the Guerrilla 450 to be positioned somewhere in this ballpark but probably closer to the Triumph than the Husqvarna.
