It’s safe to say that the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X have been fairly well received since they made their big global debut a couple of days ago. And if these first impressions are good enough for you to already be planning ahead, then you can now go and book both bikes on Triumph’s website.
Triumph Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X booking amount
The booking amount for the new Triumph 400s has been set at a fairly modest Rs 2,000, and this is fully refundable, which means that if the prices announced on July 5 are not to your liking, you can cancel your booking and be reimbursed for the full amount. As for what the prices will be, our best guess is that the Speed 400 will be priced around the Rs 3 lakh mark (ex-showroom), while the Scrambler will be a little more expensive.
Triumph Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X accessories list
As is usually the case with Triumph, both new 400cc models are going to be offered with a comprehensive catalogue of accessories that you can choose to install. First up, the optional extras that are common to both bikes. Triumph is offering a few luggage options for the Speed and the Scrambler, and these include soft panniers, rigid and semi-rigid top box options, and a nylon tank bag. You can also go for a rear luggage rack, onto which you can mount an accessory roll-top bag from Triumph or any other non-OEM bike luggage.
In terms of protection, Triumph is offering an aluminium sump guard, as well as upper and lower engine guards. There’s also what the company calls a mud splash kit, which essentially brings in mud-guard extenders and a rear tyre-hugger. It is possible that this could be standard fitment on the India-spec motorcycles.
And finally, there are some aesthetic bits that you can get, to tweak the appearance of both bikes. Options across the lineup are accessory LED indicators (stock indicators are also LEDs, but these sport a different design), a clear windscreen, and quilted seats.
Then there are the accessories that are specific to each bike. The Scrambler gets knee pads in the fuel tank cutouts as standard, but on the Speed, these are optional extras. Similarly, the double-barrel exhaust design from the Scrambler can also be had as an accessory on the Speed, while the Scrambler itself also offers a stainless-steel version of its double-barrel unit. Pretty much every single press image of the Scrambler shows it with a headlight grille, but this isn’t listed as an accessory for the bike, which leads us to believe that it is standard fitment. In the case of the Speed, the grille is offered as an official accessory.
Strangely, every picture of the Speed 400 shows it fitted with bar-end mirrors. And yet, bar-end mirrors are listed as an accessory for this model. So it remains to be seen what exactly the mirror situation is for this bike. Nevertheless, the Scrambler gets conventional mirrors, and bar-ends aren’t offered as an accessory here. What the Scrambler does get, which the Speed doesn’t, is heated grips.
