As we had reported earlier, Yamaha is gearing up to make its return to the premium bike segment in India and of all the products it will launch, the R3 is perhaps the one that’s the most hotly anticipated.
2023 Yamaha R3: updates, underpinnings and features
The 2023 model year has brought two cosmetic revisions to the R3 in the form of sleek LED indicators derived from the bigger models and a new eye-cathcing purple colour.
The rest of the bike remains mechanically identical with a liquid-cooled, 321cc, parallel-twin engine making 42hp at 10,750rpm and 29.5Nm at 9,000rpm. This engine is nestled within a diamond frame, suspended by a 37mm USD fork and preload-adjustable monoshock, both courtesy of KYB.
The features list on the R3 includes a slipper clutch, dual-channel ABS, all-LED lighting and an LCD display (unlike a more modern TFT unit found on some of its rivals).
When launched in India, the Yamaha R3 will go head-to-head with the likes of the KTM RC 390, BMW G 310 RR and another rev-happy parallel-twin from Japan, the Kawasaki Ninja 400.
