Yamaha has finally taken the wraps off the YZF-R15 V3.0. The much-awaited faired motorcycle has received substantial updates for 2018 and is priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The new R15 features an R1-inspired fairing and gets twin-LED headlights, with the tail-light being an LED unit too. The R15 is built around a new Deltabox frame which will lend it its signature handling characteristics – natural and precise, in other words. Unlike the international update to the R15, however, the version launched in India features a 41mm telescopic fork instead of an (expensive) upside-down fork. The R15 is shod with 100/80 17 (front) and 140/70 17 (rear) tubeless tyres. At the front, the new R15 gets a 282mm disc brake with a two-piston caliper while the rear gets a smaller disc. ABS has not been offered on this model yet.
The R15 V3.0 is powered by a 155cc, SOHC, four-valve, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motor which produces 19.3hp at 10,000rpm. It runs a high compression ratio (11.6:1) and features a lightweight forged aluminium piston. The motor is paired to a six-speed transmission that also features an assist and slip clutch, which makes the clutch feel lighter and helps the bike maintain composure under hard downshifts.
Among other features are a fully-digital multi-function instrument cluster with a gear-shift light and a connector for USB charging. Priced at Rs 1.25 lakh, the R15 is slightly more expensive than the outgoing model. But are its power increment and new styling/features enough to justify the hike? Do you think it has been a deserving upgrade? Let us know in the comments section below.
