Aprilia Storm 125 launched at Rs 65,000

Aprilia has launched the Storm 125 in India at an introductory price of Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom, India). The scooter, as can be seen from the image the company shared, is available with drum brakes at both ends. We were the first to reveal this around 20 days ago. The production model also appears to have a few more changes when compared to the Storm 125 first displayed at Auto Expo 2018. The Storm 125 costs around Rs 8,000 lesser than the SR125 that is priced at Rs 72,920 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Storm 125 uses what look like 12-inch wheels, but the design looks similar to the 10-inch ones seen on Vespa models in India and not like that of Aprilia’s SRs. These wheels are paired to drum brakes that will feature CBS. However, it is still not known if the company has a front-disc-brake-equipped model on offer. The production scooter also features other small changes, like a grab handle that was missing earlier and a white Aprilia logo instead of a red one.

While Aprilia has made many changes, almost certainly in order to cut costs, it hasn’t swapped out the Vee rubber off-road-oriented tyres for regular ones. These tyres are expected to be the same ones we saw at the Expo, measuring 120/80 at the front and 130/80 at the rear. In comparison, the SR sports 120/70 section rubber at both the ends, and it recently switched from Vee Rubber to MRF Nylogrip Zappers. The bike also features the bold graphics from the scooter displayed at the expo.

The bodywork, instrumentation and lights, meanwhile, are identical to the SR 125. Propulsion will most likely come from the same single-cylinder, three-valve air-cooled unit seen on the SR 125. On the SR, it produces 9.5hp at 7,250rpm and 9.8Nm of torque at 6,250rpm.

In terms of competition, the Storm 125 takes on the TVS Ntorq 125 (drum brake) that is priced much lower at Rs 58, 252 and the Honda Grazia (drum brake), which costs Rs 60,723 (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
