Last year at EICMA, Hero revealed two new Xoom models, the 125R and the 160, with the former now having been spotted out on test in Rajasthan.

    1. Styling in line with Xoom family
    2. 124.6cc motor rated for 9hp, 10.4Nm in Destini 125
    3. Xoom 125R will roll on 14-inch wheels

Hero Xoom 125R: engine, styling, launch details

The Xoom 125R will be powered by the same air-cooled, 124.6cc, single-cylinder motor that we just experienced in the updated Destini 125. This engine is rated for 9hp and 10.4Nm of torque in the family-oriented Destini 125, and it remains to be seen if Hero will make any changes to the mill for duty in the relatively sportier Xoom.

Just like the Xoom 110, the 125R will use a full digital display, with some Bluetooth functionality baked in. The switchgear on the Xoom 125R is the same as the updated Destini 125. The Xoom 125R shown at EICMA had a front disc brake but we could also see a lower variant with a drum too upon launch. Since the Xoom 125R’s engine displaces less than 125cc, it will only get CBS, not ABS.

Just like the Aprilia SR 125, the Xoom 125R will also run on 14-inch wheels, which will make it the first petrol scooter from an Indian company to do so. Another nifty feature on the Xoom 125R is the presence of sequential indicators, something seen on high-end German luxury cars and large-capacity Triumph bikes.

It has been nearly a year since the Xoom 125’s public unveil and the test mule we spotted seemed close to production-spec, which cements the case for the Xoom 125R’s imminent public debut. It remains to be seen where the Xoom 125R slots into the market upon launch, but with Hero’s competitive pricing, we expect it to be positioned around the Rs 85,000 - Rs 1 lakh ballpark (ex-showroom).
