Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) today announced that it has crossed the 15 million customers milestone in the 13th year of operation in India. The last five million customers were, however, added in the last 18 months after the company declared it had crossed the 10 million customer mark in July 2012.

The company attributes its foray into the mass motorcycle segment with the Dream Yuga and Dream Neo commuter motorcycles for achieving the landmark

HMSI was founded in December 1999, and its first production facility at Manesar commenced operations in 2001. Currently, it operates three manufacturing facilities at Manesar (Haryana) and Tapukara (Rajasthan) and Narsapura (Karnataka) with the cumulative production capacity likely to reach 46 lakh units annually by FY14 end.

Speaking on this achievement, Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO, HMSI, said: “Together we have successfully given joy of mobility to 15 million happy customers. We firmly believe customer experience and customer loyalty is priceless and will work very closely with our customers to enhance the same.”

Y S Guleria, VP (sales & marketing), HMSI, said: “Achieving the 15 million customers mark in such a short period is a testimony to growing customer trust on Honda brand. To meet customer demand and reach out to new markets, Honda has intensified its efforts to rapidly expand its network by adding 500 new touch-points and take its growing network to 2,500.”

HMSI sold 296,144 units during December 2013, up by 36 percent (December 2012: 217,498 units). While motorcycles, which saw sales of 125,109 units during the month (December 2012: 106,254 units) grew by 18 percent, it was the scooters segment which made a mark. HMSI sold 171,035 scooters, up a solid 54 percent over December 2012 sales of 111,244 scooters. In terms of models, the Dream Neo has sold over 100,000 units in seven months of its launch.
