Honda overtakes Hero in July wholesale sales, but Hero leads in retail

    While Honda has taken the lead, Suzuki sales have seen a big increase over the past month.

    In July, Honda took the lead from Hero in terms of distribution numbers from the factory. However, Hero still retains the lead in retail sales. According to the government VAHAN database, 3,94,902 Hero two-wheelers were sold, compared to Honda’s 3,68,409 in the same period.

    Another major development is Suzuki surpassing the 1 lakh sales milestone for the first time. Here’s how the six highest-selling manufacturers performed domestically last month.

    Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India- 4,39,118 units

    Honda registered an impressive 41.34 percent YoY growth and a 9 percent decrease in sales compared to last month. The company reported export figures of 43,982 units.     Hero MotoCorp - 3,47,535 units

    Hero saw a 29.27 percent decline in sales compared to the previous month and a 6.37 percent decrease in YoY growth. The company exported 22,739 units of motorcycles and scooters, marking a 13.9 percent increase in YoY exports. It is worth noting that these sales figures include those from the electric VIDA brand, which falls under the Hero MotoCorp.     TVS Motor Co - 2,54,250 units

    TVS recorded a mild 0.58 percent decline in sales compared to last month but saw an 8.08 percent YoY growth. The company also reported an 11 percent increase in exports compared to July 2023. TVS recently teased an update to the NTorq. Tap here to read more about it.  

    Bajaj Auto - 1,68,847 units

    Bajaj reported an 18.91 percent increase in YoY growth for July. However, the brand experienced a 4.71 percent decline in sales compared to the previous month. In July, the company launched the world’s first CNG bike and announced plans to export it to other countries. Tap here to learn more.

    Suzuki - 1,00,602 units

    Suzuki has seen a massive 25.26 percent increase in YoY growth with its July 2024 sales figures. The brand has also reported a 41.52 percent increase in sales compared to the previous month. The Japanese brand also reported a 41.46 percent decrease in exports which were reported as 16,112 units for July 2024.     Royal Enfield - 61,208 units

    Royal Enfield reported a 7.34 percent decline in domestic sales and a 14 percent decline in exports for its YoY sales figures.
