2021 Mini 3-Door, Convertible, John Cooper Works launched

Mini 3-Door now priced at Rs 38 lakh; Mini Convertible and JCW priced at Rs 44 lakh and Rs 45.5 lakh, respectively.

The updated Mini 3-Door, Convertible and John Cooper Works (JCW) have been launched in India. Available in singular petrol variants, the updated models get a number of cosmetic updates such as new colour options, new upholstery and trim finishers, new alloy wheel designs and updated equipment lists. Prices for the updated Mini hatchback range start from Rs 38 lakh for the 3-Door hatchback and goes up till Rs 45.5 lakh for the JCW. The Mini Convertible is priced at Rs 44 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, India).

Mini 3-Door, JCW hatchback, Convertible: Styling updates

Mini introduced the facelifted hatchbacks in the global markets earlier this year with a test mule of the same spied in India in February. The updated hatchbacks get a revised nose with a grille that stretches to the base of the bumper along with new bumpers front and rear. The JCW model gets a more aggressive look with more prominent vents in the bumper and a full-black mesh-finish grille – the standard 3-Door and Convertible feature a body-coloured panel bisecting the grille, roof mounted spoiler and model specific alloy wheels.

All three models sit on new design alloy wheels and Mini claims that the wheel arch contouring too has been revised for the updated hatchbacks. 17-inch alloy wheels are standard, though the JCW can be optioned with 18-inch units.

Mini 3-Door, JCW hatchback, Convertible: cabin updates and equipment

The cabin stays more or less in-line with the outgoing model save for new upholstery colours and additional kit. A notable change to the updated hatchbacks is the now standard 8.8-inch touchscreen. Also new to the equipment list is an optional 5.0-inch digital instrument display.

In terms of equipment, the three hatchbacks get standard kit such as auto LED headlamps, auto wipers, rear parking sensors, rear view camera, auto climate control, height adjustable front seats, ambient lighting, dual airbags, ABS, traction control and stability control to name a few.

The JCW additionally packs in bits such as JCW Sport seats and steering, cruise control and a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi audio system – all optional on the standard hatchback and convertible.

Buyers can additionally option on kit such as a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors, hands free parking, wireless phone charging, heads up display, adaptive suspension and more.

Mini 3-Door, JCW hatchback, Convertible: Engine details

Under the hood all three models use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The 3-Door and Convertible are available in Cooper S spec, meaning the unit puts out 192hp and 280Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In the JCW, the unit develops a meatier 231hp and 320Nm of torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.

Mini India line-up: 2021 and beyond

The updated hatchbacks are Mini’s third product (second, if not counting special editions) launch in India this year. The carmaker had launched the facelifted Countryman in India in March which was preceded by the limited-run Mini Paddy Hopkirk Edition – based on the pre-facelift car – which was launched in January. The carmaker’s current India line-up comprises of the updated hatchback trio and the Countryman.
