UPDATE: Auto Expo 2020: TVS, Jawa to skip, Suzuki, Piaggio to participate
With less than four months to go for the Auto Expo 2020, we now have details on the list of carmakers who will be attending the biennial motor show, which is the biggest of its kind in India.
Making their Auto Expo debut in 2020 will be a major name from China – Great Wall Motors. Great Wall Motors produces a long line of SUVs and pick-up trucks, and will likely have a handful of those on display at the Auto Expo 2020.
Unfortunately, the list of car manufacturers choosing to not be a part of the 15th edition of the Auto Expo is a lengthy one, with a number of major names figuring on that list for multiple reasons. The Indian auto industry is currently in the midst of a pronounced slowdown, and many companies have opted out of the motor show as the cost of participation continues to be high, and most manufacturers are in the process of realigning their product plans and focusing their resources on the transition to BS6 emission norms.
Prominent carmakers that won’t be a part of the Auto Expo 2020 include BMW and Honda – both of which had important unveils and launches at the 2018 event – as well as Ford and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, who haven’t participated in the Auto Expo since 2016.
Audi, Lexus, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover will also not participate in the Auto Expo 2020, and this means the only luxury carmaker present will be Mercedes-Benz.
Citroen – set to launch its first model in India in 2020 – has also decided against participating in the Auto Expo 2020. Toyota will give the Auto Expo 2020 a miss, and Nissan, too, is said to be on the fence, and may not be part of the show.
That said, the big players are expected to be out in full force at the Auto Expo 2020. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Kia, MG Motor and Renault will be present, along with Volkswagen and Skoda. Volkswagen returns after having skipped the 2018 edition, while Skoda will be back at the Expo for the first time since 2014.
To be held at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the Auto Expo 2020 will open its doors to the public on February 7 and will go on till February 12.
