Jaguar Land Rover's Chinese partner Chery has launched two new concept cars at the Beijing motor show.
The Concept Beta is a radical looking, bechromed SUV concept with vast lights and an even more distinctive grille.
Borne on massive 22in rims with mean black wheel arches it has a rather short wheelbase and the look of a crossover, although it has five doors. It is intended to preview a new SUV to be launched in 2016.
Chery’s Concept Alpha is a more restrained and realistic looking four door coupe, in the same vein as the VW CC.
It’s intended as a sneak peek at the forthcoming Arizzo 5 saloon and cones with a dramatically rising waistline, sleek headlights and by the standards of other Beijing show cars from Chinese brands, a rather restrained grille.
When the production version goes on sale, power will come from a choice of a 1.5-litre engine or 1.2-litre turbo, both powered by petrol. As usual for domestic market produce, no diesel version is planned.
