Borgward made its comeback at the Geneva motor show this year, and the BX7 SUV is the first car to from the manufacturer after it declared bankruptcy in 1961. The BX7 will first retail in China in 2016, followed by Europe.

Proportionally similar to the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, the front fascia sports a large bar grille with a prominent Borgward badge. The sloping roofline of the SUV meets the boot-mounted rear spoiler. Officials have confirmed a potential plug-in hybrid system, suggesting that the SUV could get at least one hybrid powertrain option.

The BX7 is rumoured to derive power from a 221bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol, delivering a combined power output of 296bhp with the hybrid system. The new model will be offered as an all-wheel drive and be equipped with  a newly developed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Borgward has also introduced an in-car connectivity system called 'Multiple Interaction'.
The company plans achieve worldwide sales of 8,00,000 units by 2020. Besides the BX7, Borgward will unveil a second production-ready luxury model range at the 2016 Geneva motor show.

The Mercedes-Benz C-class, SLK, SL and the GLC are produced at Borgward’s Bremen plant, which has been bought over by the company.
