To meet cleaner BS6 emission norms implemented from April 1, 2020, car manufacturers have updated their engines. Datsun, among others, has also upgraded its 1.2-litre petrol engine that does duty in the Go hatchback and Go+ MPV, and now we have the new ARAI certified fuel-efficiency figures for the same.
Both these cars are powered by a BS6 compliant 68hp, 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The new ARAI figure for this configuration stands at 19.02kpl for both the cars, which is 0.7kpl lower than their outgoing versions.

The CVT (automatic) versions of these cars are available with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine, albeit in a higher 77hp state of tune, but making a similar 104Nm of torque as the manual version. The Go CVT’s ARAI fuel efficiency figure is rated at 19.59kpl, while the Go+ CVT’s does 18.57kpl, which are 0.48kpl and 0.84kpl lower than the BS4 version, respectively.
Prices of the BS6 versions haven’t been updated as yet and are likely to be announced in a few days. Both these cars will be available with manual transmission across five variants – D, A, A (O), T and T (O) –while two variants – T and T (O) – will also get the CVT automatic transmission option.
In 2019, Datsun updated these two cars to make them comply with Indian crash standards as well as upcoming pedestrian protection standards. As of date, the GO and GO+ are the most affordable vehicles in India to be equipped with ESP, in addition to standard safety kit like ABS with EBD, dual airbags and parking sensors, to name a few.
Datsun and parent company Nissan have also launched an anti-microbial sanitisation campaign under which dealers will sanitise frequently touched surfaces of their cars – inside and out – free of charge. Customers can also avail of a full sanitisation option using an interior fogging treatment for an additional cost. The services will be available at all Nissan and Datsun dealerships during a service camp that will be held between May 15 and June 30.
